Everything you need to do your best thinking.]]>

Today, our friends at Baron Fig launched a refresh of their site, and it looks great. As part of that new design, they’ve also released some new products, one of which is the Idea Toolset.

Well, I say “new,” but it’s more accurately described as a new combo set of already existing products:

  1. Their classic Confidant notebook.
  2. Their aerospace-grade aluminum Squire rollerball pen.
  3. And, one of their Guardian Pro cases to hold it all (and then some).

While it normally costs $117 to buy these things separately, the Idea Toolset will only run you $85, which is a pretty killer deal.

And, you still get to choose the colors of all three items, so you can come up with the perfect combo to express yourself.

Personally, I’m a fan of the Fig Wine case, Blue Slate notebook, and Charcoal pen combo:

Baron Fig “Mysterium” Squire Pen http://toolsandtoys.net/baron-fig-mysterium-squire-pen/ http://toolsandtoys.net/baron-fig-mysterium-squire-pen/#comments Thu, 07 Jun 2018 20:00:39 +0000 http://toolsandtoys.net/?p=35124 A limited-edition Squire that seeks out answers to the secrets of the universe.]]>

Our friends at Baron Fig have released a limited-edition, science fiction-inspired version of their aluminum Squire pen, which they’ve dubbed “Mysterium”.

Like the original Squire, the precision-weighted Mysterium pen is machined from a solid block of high-grade aluminum, but this one sports a gorgeous warm orange color — meant to evoke hazy sunsets on distant planets — and etched with an icosahedron (basically a 20-sided die) emblem. It looks pretty cool on its own or in their Squire Pen Stand.

What’s even more fun is that they collaborated with writer Harry C. Marks — who you may know from the Curious Rat blog or the Covered podcast — to create a short sci-fi story called “Searching for Mysterium” that accompanies the pen (which can be read at the bottom of the product page):

The room vibrates around me as I reach for it. It carries within it an energy, a force unlike anything I’ve ever felt. It amplifies my cognitive abilities tenfold and my mind expands beyond the edges of the universe. I wrap my gloved hand around the object and pull it toward me. The room disappears in a flash of white light.

The Mysterium Squire pen is available for $60 at Baron Fig.

Baron Fig’s aluminum Squire Pen already makes an excellent companion for the company’s Confidant notebooks. Now you can give it a special home on your desk with their lovely new Pen Stand, machined from a single block of the same high-grade aluminum. If the pen is the sword by which ideas are captured, then this minimal stand is the stone.

Baron Fig’s Squire Pen [Kickstarter] http://toolsandtoys.net/baron-fig-squire-pen/ http://toolsandtoys.net/baron-fig-squire-pen/#comments Tue, 17 Nov 2015 17:00:30 +0000 http://toolsandtoys.net/?p=19927 A beautifully functional pen made by the guys who brought you the excellent Confidant notebook.]]>

Our friends at Baron Fig have put up a Kickstarter campaign for a pen (dubbed the “Squire”) to complement their excellent Confidant notebooks.

The Squire has several design features that make it both useful and beautiful:

  • It’s precision weighted so that it rests comfortably in your hand.
  • The body — which is cut from a solid block of high-grade aluminum — subtly widens from top to bottom, making it more ergonomic and keeping your fingers from sliding down.
  • It’s shorter than an average pen but longer than most pocket pens, hitting the portability sweet spot.
  • There are very few parts or edges to speak of.

As of this writing (November 16th, 2015) they’ve already crushed their $15k funding goal and still have 24 days to go. The Squire will come in silver and charcoal flavors, and it takes a pledge level of at least $50 to get one for yourself when the campaign ends. They will retail for $65 a pop after that.
