We’ve always loved the iconic amplifier style of Marshall’s Bluetooth speaker lineup, because they all look just as cool as they make your music sound. And yet, despite their retro looks, new models of the speakers are continually being released with future-ready features.

Their new Emberton III and Willen II portable speakers are perfect examples of this philosophy.

Both of them are Bluetooth LE audio-ready, which itself will enable Auracast functionality — meaning, you can connect your phone to one of the speakers via Bluetooth and it can then broadcast that audio to all other Auracast-enabled speakers/headphones nearby. You’ll feel like a walking radio station. 😎

(Note: Auracast functionality is expected to be rolled out via an over-the-air update.)

The speakers also deliver surprisingly powerful sound for their size.

The Emberton III, the larger of the two, comes packed with “True Stereophonic” sound, offering rich and full 360° audio that fills any room or outdoor space with ease over the course of ~32 hours of battery life per charge. Meanwhile, the still more portable Willen II offers harder-hitting bass and improved drivers over its predecessor and delivers up to 17 hours of playback.

Both speakers boast an IP67 dust- and waterproof rating, meaning they can each handle dust, dirt, and being submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at a depth of 1m/3ft. These things are excellent travel companions for even the most rugged adventures.

Get the Emberton III for $170 and the Willen II for $120.

Marshall “Acton III” Bluetooth Speaker http://toolsandtoys.net/marshall-acton-iii-bluetooth-speaker/ http://toolsandtoys.net/marshall-acton-iii-bluetooth-speaker/#comments Tue, 22 Nov 2022 01:00:55 +0000 http://toolsandtoys.net/?p=45525 An already awesome speaker, now re-engineered with a wider soundstage for greater music immersion.]]>

About a month ago, Marshall released the follow-up to their Acton II Bluetooth speaker. That’s right, it’s the Acton III, and while it sports its predecessor’s same classic guitar amp look — not a bad thing in our book — there are some noteworthy upgrades that set it apart.

Most notably, the company has re-engineered the speaker’s audio experience to be more immersive and room-filling than ever, literally widening the soundstage by angling the tweeters outwards and incorporating updated waveguides. It seems like a small couple of upgrades, but they really make a noticeable difference.

Also new is something they call “Placement Compensation” which corrects for nearby reflective surfaces that may affect the sound. This works alongside the “Dynamic Loudness” feature to ensure your music always sounds great, even if you crank up the volume.

Whereas the Acton II had a button that could play/pause alone, the Acton III adds forward/backward track controls. They’ve even upgraded the Bluetooth connectivity from version 5.0 to 5.2

Inside the Acton II’s wooden cabinet construction are three dedicated class D amplifiers that power dual tweeters and a subwoofer, the sound of which you can fine-tune to your liking thanks to the separate bass and treble adjustment knobs next to the volume dial on top of the unit.

The speaker supports Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity for up to two devices at once, so you can take turns choosing songs with a buddy. There’s also an AUX port in case you wanna go old-school.

Marshall “Emberton” Portable Bluetooth Speaker http://toolsandtoys.net/marshall-emberton-portable-bluetooth-speaker/ http://toolsandtoys.net/marshall-emberton-portable-bluetooth-speaker/#comments Mon, 23 Nov 2020 19:25:23 +0000 http://toolsandtoys.net/?p=42114 Rich, clear and loud, like the artist intended. Plus it's got that classic Marshall look. 😎🎸]]>

On top of sounding awesome for its size, Marshall’s “Emberton” portable Bluetooth speaker is one of the coolest-looking options you’re bound to find.

This small yet mighty speaker sports a classic guitar amp-like aesthetic 😎🎸 and offers 20+ hours of rich, room-filling, 360° playback via Bluetooth 5.0. You won’t believe how great this little guy sounds.

And the silicone exterior and solid metal grille aren’t just for sweet looks, either; they make the Emberton a highly robust and durable speaker that can put up with a lot of abuse. It’s also IPX7 water-resistant, so you can bring it to the pool party without worry (once those are safe again, that is).

Sound and playback are controllable with that brass-colored joystick on top, which also acts as a power on/off button.
