Pre-order the Anova Precision Cooker Nano
I guess I’ve got sous vide on the mind lately. The other day I wrote about the Kitchen Gizmo sous vide machine for the budget-minded, and today I’ll point your attention to Anova’s own upcoming competitor in that space: the Precision Cooker Nano.
Clocking in at 25% smaller and a pound lighter than their previous model, and with both an improved temperature-control algorithm and the addition of onboard controls (so you don’t have to pair it with a smartphone), the $99 Anova Nano will make getting into sous vide cooking easier and more affordable than ever. And if you do use the accompanying app, you’ll have access to two neat features:
- MultiStep — Lets you manage different temperatures for the same meal. For example, you can set different levels of doneness for burgers cooking together, or set varying times for adding ingredients along the way.
- MultiCook — Lets you manage two or more Anova devices at once, so you can synchronize them to all finish cooking at the same time.
However, it should be noted that there are some minor tradeoffs to the Nano’s simplier design — namely, a lack of Wi-Fi connectivity (it’s Bluetooth-only) and a less powerful water heater (700-watt vs. the previous 900-watt). Those quibbles aside, Anova’s strong track record gives me great confidence in what the Nano will be able to do when it releases later this year.
The Nano will retail for $99, but as of this writing (June 14th, 2017) they still have some $89 pre-order slots available for November shipment.
