Imagine if you took the technology that makes it possible for vacuum-insulated mugs to hold their internal temperature for hours on end and made an entire cooler with it. How cool (if you’ll pardon the expression) would that be?

Well, that’s exactly what YETI did with their “V Series” cooler. It combines the cold-holding power and stainless steel body of the company’s own Rambler drinkware with the iconic look and utility of their Tundra coolers (and then some).

With the V Series they somehow managed to raise the bar on the Tundras’ temperature retention, which was no small feat of engineering. And it’s not just that it can retain the same ice for days and days on end, or its space-age looks — this is also a cooler built to last.

They spared no expense with the hardware throughout, opting for an aluminum-and-steel latch system, cast aluminum hinges, a commercial kitchen-grade steel body that’s rust-resistant…heck, even the deep-seal drain plug is made with high-grade stainless steel.

All this engineering and performance does come at a cost however, clocking in at $800 a pop. A high premium to pay, for sure — but then again, it may be the last cooler you ever buy, and something you’ll be able to pass down decades from now.

When you travel around the US a lot, you start to realize how regional fast food chains can be. In Maine, Dunkin Donuts clearly dominates over Starbucks; California’s the best place to be if you want In-N-Out; and if you’re in Texas, you’ll find Whataburgers practically around every corner.

Now, maybe it’s weird to have an obsession with any fast food place, but as my wife will tell you, I could eat at Whataburger almost every day. That YETI Rambler Lowball Tumbler I got for Christmas in 2017 is still one of my favorite gifts I’ve ever received, one that I use just about every day (mostly for coffee consumption). There are an almost embarrassing number of photos of me from social gatherings over the past year where it’s in my hand, like some kind of security blanket.

Nearly indestructible and always ready to work, the 5-gallon YETI LoadOut is the Rolls Royce of utility buckets. It’s designed for lugging, loading, hauling, baling, stepping, cleaning, and whatever-else-ing, without falling apart at a moment’s notice.

I was recently gifted a YETI Rambler 10oz Lowball, and I have to say, it’s very nice. It’s a vacuum-insulated tumbler that can keep your morning coffee hot for an hour or so, then keep your nighttime bourbon cold even longer. Use it around the house or take it camping, it works great either way.

Like all YETI products, the durable construction is top-notch so you don’t have to worry about it breaking, and it doesnt sweat so it won’t leave a ring when you set it down on a table. The included see-through lid is shatterproof and dishwasher-safe, but keep in mind that the (for lack of a better term) sip hole doesn’t close, so unless you upgrade to their MagSlider Lid, you’ll still have to be careful of spills.

Get the plain stainless steel version for $20 on Amazon. They also offer a few models with a DuraCoat color grip.

Another excellent alternative (albeit one without a lid at all) is the AVEX “Sundowner” insulated rocks glass.

These reusable stainless steel straws are designed to work with large stainless steel tumblers like the Yeti Rambler (20 oz. / 30 oz.) or the RTIC (20 oz. / 30 oz.) — which themselves are great for both travel and office work — but you can use them any way you like, provided the container is large enough.

The set includes 6 straight straws and 6 bent straws — all of which are 10.5″ long — plus two handy cleaning brushes. Take good care of them, and they’ll last for years. Think of all the plastic straws you’ll avoid wasting in that much time!

Two things to keep in mind:

1. These are made of metal, so do be mindful of that while drinking so you don’t chip a tooth or something. I probably wouldn’t give one to a kid to drink with.
2. They’re also a bit narrow as straws go, so your mileage may vary when it comes to drinking smoothies/shakes/etc.
